How to Successfully Obedience Train Dogs
As a dog owner, obedience training for dogs is one of the most important facets of dog training. Obedience training for dogs is not the "magic bullet" that will solve all of your dogs behavior problems, but it can make a big impact. A couple of the positives of obedience training are that you will have clearer and more effective communication with your dog, you will also learn exactly how to demand obedience from your dog.
Without the proper obedience training your dogs will exhibit behaviors such as improper elimination, destroying your home, loud and inappropriate barking, fighting, biting and many other destructive behaviors. All of which will gradually get worse if the dog feels you are not taking the role of the leader, if he establishes himself as the leader of the pack, even training becomes that much harder.
Obedience training helps to make you the "top dog" in the pack, it gives the dog the idea that they are your subordinate and that what you say is meant to be obeyed. Dogs love to please you once they have found that they must obey you because at this point you are the leader and they must respect you.
When you start your obedience training with your dog, make sure it is fun. By having fun with your dog when training him you will not only reduce boredom but you will also increase the success you see.

While training it is important that sessions are short and to the point, if you make them long and boring, it could have an adverse effect on your dog. You must also be consistent in this training so that they remember and associate their training with the proper behaviors. Make sure that when doing a session that you incorporate some of the dog's favorite activities and make the training fun while maintaining the firmness you will require for them to train properly.
As a part of positive reinforcement, always make sure you reward your dog when he has done what's expected of him. Rewards will encourage your dog to do more of the same and further improve. Never get too carried away and excited when giving praise as your dog will lose concentration.
Treating your dog after good behavior is a great way to encourage good results. Never be too harsh in reprimanding your dog as this will generally not help your dogs training. In most cases, punishing your dog or yelling at your dog only makes the training less effective.
Effective obedience training of your dog will bring happiness to you and your dog. Always reward positive behavior and your dog will try to please you in return.
